YARDFOWL - Rogues in Paradise Dissenting Voice Presenting Yardfowl: A Voice to Challenge the Colonial Legacy. Yardfowl is an imaginary character in Rogues in Paradise, influenced by various Bajans I have experienced and observed for many years. He embodies the voices of those who survived and still come to grips with the tradition of manifest destiny in Barbados. Unlike the colonial narratives, which typically skirt around the topic of slavery or technique it with a sense of guilt, survivors talk to feelings rooted in the genuine and enduring impacts of physical, emotional, and psychological abuse. Yardfowl is their voice-- vibrant, unfiltered, and grounded in the lived experiences of his forefathers. He shows the resilience and strength of those who withstood and got rid of inhumane destruction, trauma, and systemic oppression.
